ABOUT US

OUR HISTORY

Founded in 2003 by Reverend Henry Brown and Henrietta Beckman. MUAV has been a driving force for positive change in the community response to violence, education, health, housing and economic disparities. With the unconditional support from the community and many families, we are able to help and bring faith to those who need it the most.

About the Organization

Mothers United Against Violence is a non-profit organization that offers services throughout the Greater Hartford area and throughout Connecticut.

MUAV provides direct services to help those who have been victimized and others whose loved ones have been sometimes tragically taken.

MUAV is a:

  • Certified subcontractor in accordance with Victim of Crimes Act (VOCA)
  • Victim Centered Team
  • Member of Community Safety Coalition
  •  Member of the Gun Violence Prevention and Intervention
  • Member of the Hospital-based Violence Intervention Program (HVIP)
  • Registered 501(C)(3)

OUR IMPACT

Mothers United Against Violence is a faith-based nonprofit organization serving Greater Hartford and the surrounding areas for the past 20 years.

We promote justice through community response to violence and provide support to victims of violence.

Individuals we serve are historically part of the underserved community and lack access to an equitable criminal justice system, economic resources, mental health resources, hospital support, and educational tools.

OUR GOALS

We strive to be the voice of hope providing direct services to victims by:

  • Providing compassion and support for families
  • Decreasing gun violence and retaliation through prevention and intervention
  • Providing direct support to victims of crime and violence
  • Engaging youth through specialized educational development programs
  • Unifying the community through outreach events, advocacy, and collaborative activities
