MUAV provides peer-to-peer support groups for mothers, children, and other family members impacted by gun violence. The aim is to help them cope with their grief through compassion, connection, and consistent encouragement. After a death or injury from gun violence, our primary goal is to help moms through the grieving process by gaining support from their community and helping them regain some normalcy in their lives. Moms engage in various group activities such as sewing circles, trauma-informed sessions, respite activities, and other related life- skill training designed to empower them, build their self-esteem, and teach them self-advocacy skills. The mothers are also supported with entrepreneurship tools to help them develop their businesses.
We offer group dynamic sessions to help our families with the healing process.
The Circle of Compassion maintains a special communication network with our core group of mothers, dads, and families to help keep them involved in celebrations of special days, healing and support retreats, and other work focusing on maintaining their peace and a level of comfort.
" Our group of sessions are incredible with people of all ages who have been impacted by violence. We discuss about how environmental trauma has affected each and every one of us. How it affects us in our homes, schools as well as our communities. It is a great way to share how we feel with people who have experienced a loss of a loved one." - Laverne Terry
